One of my doctors recommended I try this and I got used to putting it in smoothies all summer so it became part of my routine. I told my doctor and he had a laugh over it, a new story to tell, and I wanted to share it here in my review too. One of the things my doctor told me is that you can have as much of this as you want and you can't OD, which takes some anxiety off of portioning. Of course, see a therapist and doctor if you need them, and if you have them, you could ask about this supplement. This stuff is legit and is helping in heaps! Literally!L-Tyrosine is a powerful aromatic amino acid that is a building block for dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, and thyroid hormones. Tyrosine supplements are nootropics and adaptogens that help with performance during times of stress. Many people find that it helps significantly with fatigue from stress.L-Tyrosine is produced within the body from a variety of dietary sources. Its primary roles are protein synthesis and maintaining healthy brain chemistry by providing the material from which dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine are produced. These three vital neurotransmitters, known as catecholamines, have a profound effect on energy levels, mood, motivation, and cognitive function.Though L-tyrosine doesn’t directly stimulate the production of these neurotransmitters, it does provide a “buffer” of the raw material the brain needs to produce them, particularly beneficial when stress has depleted their levels. The consistency is hard to eat on its own, so we pack this into gel caps, which makes it easier to take. I take 250mg doses two times a day, in the morning and early afternoon (for 500mg/day total). In other words, if your dopamine and norepinephrine levels are already normal, extra tyrosine may not produce much effect, but under stress conditions, extra tyrosine can prevent depletion of dopamine and norepinephrine, and be beneficial to maintaining cognitive function.I was going to link another website that summarizes many popular nootropics, and that has been indispensable to me in my research regarding dosing and timing of dosing, but Amazon also wouldn't allow that.So in summary, again:*L-tyrosine is a naturally occurring amino acid that can be found in many protein sources, including meats, soy, beans, nuts, and dairy*It's taken to increase mental focus, motivation, and mood*It can also support adrenal, thyroid, and pituitary gland function*Other not-so-exciting benefits: since tyrosine is just an amino acid, it could simply be incorporated into proteins or turned into glucose and metabolized*Recommended dosage: 500mg-2000mg per day, taken in 1-5 doses, but clinical trials have used dosages anywhere from 200mg-1000mg, 4-5 times a day*Other websites and forums have suggested taking L-tyrosine during the morning or early afternoons, since it is mildly stimulatory (increasing norepinephrine), and may disrupt sleep*For mood, it's supposed to be good for depression, ADHD, and anxiety*For physical purposes, it's supposed to be good for weight loss (by increasing dopamine), phenylketonuria, and can be taken as a supplement for bodybuilding (since it is an amino acid)Side effects:*Are usually rare and mild, since this is just an amino acid, they include nausea, diarrhea, headaches, vomiting, and insomnia*No fatal doses have ever been reported (...because it's an amino acid), but large doses can cause anxiety (because it's stimulatory via norepinephrine upregulation), jitteryness, and restlessnessAlso note, L-tyrosine can cross the blood-brain barrier, but inefficiently. Some articles recommend taking L-tyrosine on an empty stomach, and to avoid eating for at least 30 minutes afterwards. Reason being, L-tyrosine is just one of the 20 amino acids our body regularly uses, so if you take it with food, or eat food soon after, all the other amino acids (i.e. anything containing protein) you eat will compete with L-tyrosine in the bloodstream for transport into the brain. There is a variant of L-tyrosine, called N-acetyl-L-tyrosine (which BulkSupplements also sells), which, as the name suggests, adds an acetyl group to the amine group of L-tyrosine, which helps promote it's transport across the blood-brain barrier.I take this along with CDP-choline, and am considering adding Mucuna Pruriens extract. All of these are supposed to promote dopamine/norepinephrine production or signaling. I used to take Adderall (which also acts on the dopamine/norepinephrine pathway as a reuptake inhibitor for both) for depression and attention deficiency, but have found the side effects of Adderall to be too much of a detriment to regularly take. The combination of L-tyrosine and CDP-choline has produced more mild, but positive effects for me, without the side effects and crash at night. Overall I would recommend. Even if you don't feel any significant difference, L-tyrosine is just a naturally occurring amino acid and is well tolerated in the majority of people, so it probably wouldn't hurt to try.Purity good definitely not low quality or cut with fillers or anything. Absorbs well with water and has zero flavour. Really helps with adhd if that's what someone's looking for. Generally just focus motivation and mood. Best value per mg ratio out of any product. Only complaints is that there's no measuring scoop and the seal on the bag dosent last.
